Ways to Keep your New Year’s Resolution

By Alyssa Palmer on December 29, 2012

Let me guess, you did not stick to your new year’s resolution from last year. Well you are not alone, committing to something you may need to improve, give up, or change about one’s life can be difficult. The best thing about a new year is a new chance to achieve a goal you have always dreamt of. I have compiled a list of things you can do in order to help accomplish everything you desire for this new year ahead.

Make it something important
This cannot be a resolution others want for you. You have to be able to commit to this for the year ahead, and if you have doubt, chances are you will cave into it. You have to be prepared to make some changes that will help towards your goal.

Write it down and imagine it.
If you cannot see yourself completing or committing to this change, you will end up failing to finish it. Make sure this goal is something practical. By writing it down, you have the ability to look at it whenever you feel yourself slipping away. A successful way to attaining your resolution is by trimming away all the temptations in your life that may be steering you down the wrong path.

Forgive yourself.
This is very important in the process of keeping your goal in mind. If you fall off track, do not assume you can give up. Get back on the wagon and hold yourself accountable for the mistake, this is the only way of moving past it.

Seek help.
Look to your close friends or family members to help keep you in the right mindset. Having someone else hold you responsible to accomplishing something can make you more in tune to stick with it. Sometimes you will come across someone who had the same resolution in previous years that can help with great advice and insight towards your success.

Remember last year.
If you ever think you have to give up and that you will never make it happen, or that you can postpone it to next year, stop thinking this way. Think back to last year and how disappointed you were that you gave up. The whole reason towards New Year’s resolution is for improvement. Improvement is not found in giving up on yourself.

I hope this list will benefit everyone in achieving their goal for the year of 2013. If you believe in yourself, then there is nothing you cannot do.
